Both Humboldt baseball and softball rocketed their way through their competition in the opening game of the 2-1A Regional Tournament on Monday.

The third-seeded Cub baseball team got a 14-4 win over Oswego and second-seeded softball beat Pleasanton 14-4.

The softball girls had a fairly easy time with Pleasanton. They led 10-1 after two and 14-1 after three.

The Lady Jays scored three in the top of the fourth to get back within 10 but were unable to get any closer.

Sydney Barker and Laken Hunter each had three hits and Isabelle Murrow had two.

Brooklyn Ellis earned her 17th win this season, allowing four runs on five hits while getting five strikeouts.

Meanwhile, baseball started off somewhat slow and even trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the third.

That’s when things really got going. Humboldt drove in nine runs to take a 12-4 lead. They scored two more in the fourth to push their lead to 10 at 14-4 and ended the game an inning later on a run-rule.

Taylor Lassman had a three-hit performance including a triple and both Josh Hull and Joe Murrow had two hits.

Dagen Goodner earned the win as the third pitcher on the field for the Cubs, pitching for two innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three.

The win pushes the baseball Cubs ahead to face two-seed Northeast-Arma in the semifinals today at 3:30 p.m. at Southeast-Cherokee while softball will face three-seed Uniontown at 4:30 p.m. in Yates Center.

A win by either will push them into the regional finals today at 5 p.m. for baseball and 6:30 p.m. for softball.
