High School Baseball: Humboldt 11, Erie 0; Humboldt 13, Erie 1
The Humboldt winning train just kept on chugging Thursday night when the Cubs hosted Erie for the second series of the season versus the Red Devils.
In the first series, the Cubs won 17-2 and 18-3 in March.
Thursdays series wasnt much different. Humboldt grabbed an 11-0 win in game one and a 13-1 win in game two to move to a dominating 17-1 overall record.
Humboldt got out a 4-0 lead after two innings in game one. They piled two more on in the fourth and then five more in the top of the sixth where the game ended a half an inning later due to the run-rule.
Josh Vanatta cruised through the first four innings to get the win, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out seven. Wyatt Seufert came in during the last two innings and was unflinching, giving up nothing while recording three strikeouts.
Jackson Aikins, Conor Haviland and Dagen Goodner each recorded two hits in the game. Goodner and Haviland each drove in two runs.
The Cubs stole 11 bases in the game.
In game two, Humboldt again got out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. No one scored in the third and then the Cubs added another four runs in the top of the fourth to push its lead to 8-0. Erie drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth but the Cubs responded with five more runs in the top of the fifth to end the game on a run-rule.
Cooper Jaro got the win, going three innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three batters.
Goodner and Aikins came on in relief and allowed a run on four hits and two walks between them.
Vanatta, Haviland, Goodner, Jaro and Josh Hull each had a two-hit game. Haviland and Goodner drove in three runs.
The Cubs can wrap up the season with a Tri-Valley League title on Monday when they host Caney Valley.
