11U USSSA Baseball: Humboldt Cubs
JOHNSON COUNTY Ten Humboldt Cubs baseball players competed in the Big League Chew Tournament over the weekend in the 11U division. Throughout two days at the 3&2 Complex in Johnson County, the team went 4-0 and won their division of the tournament.
During pool play Saturday, the team opened things up by beating the KC Panthers 11-1. In their second game of the day, they faced the Walker Athletic Grizzlies and won 10-0. The Cubs finished pool play Saturday and went into bracket play on Sunday as the number one seed.
In bracket play, the Cubs faced the Wranglers of Silver Lake and won 11-1. In the championship game, Humboldt faced the Walker Athletic Grizzlies for the second time of the tournament and won 17-9.
The tournament win brings the Cubs current record to 12-2-1 for the 2018 season.
This team has been playing together for the past four years, head coach Corey Isbell said. They have worked hard every season, both at practice and during games to become better ball players. Their teamwork is extraordinary, and it is exciting to see everything come together for them this year.
The Cubs are the second ranked single-A 11U team in the USSSA power rankings.
