Cubs fall in OT

FREDONIA — Humboldt High’s Cubs dropped a heartbreaker, 72-69, to host Fredonia High’s Yellowjackets in overtime Tuesday.
The loss put the Cubs at 4-9 in Tri-Valley League action. They are 6-14 overall, wrapping up the regular season.
The Cubs are in Class 2A substate tournament play next week.
After leading 19-18 at the end of one quarter, the Cubs faced a 37-32 halftime deficit. The Yellowjackets outscored the Cubs 12-10 in the third period.
Humboldt fired in 23 points in the four quarter. But Fredonia answered with 16 points of its own and the teams were deadlocked at 65-65 at the end of regulation.
Fredonia held a 7-4 scoring edge in the extra period.
Noah Thornbrugh had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Cubs. Trey Johnson fired in 20 points and handed out four assists.
Derrik McCall had 12 points and four assists. Nick Wiltse also dished out four assists.
Nathan Whitcomb scored seven points for Humboldt. Blake Crawford had four points and Christian Wiltse had two.
