HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Cubs pushed their record to 14-0 for the 2012 season.

It wasn’t easy.

The Cubs dug out two close victories against visiting Cherryvale High’s Chargers Tuesday.

Humboldt won 2-0 behind the pitching of Grayson Pearish. Pearish allowed three hits and struck out three.

Humboldt had single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Cubs had a single apiece from Hunter Murrow, Caleb Vanatta, Alex Murrow and Kason Siemens.

The Cubs held on to win 4-2 in the second game. They scored three runs in the first and one in the third.

Neodesha rallied for two runs in the seventh but that was it. Nathan Whitcomb went the distance for the Cubs, allowing five hits, two walks and hitting four batters. He struck out seven.

“Both games saw good pitching performances from both teams. We both struggled to score runs,” said Mike Miller, Cub head coach.

“Grayson was in command in game one and we played solid defense behind him. Nathan struggled with his control but was able to wiggle out of some tough spots.”

Siemens connected for a double and a single. Hitting a single each were Caleb D’Armond, C. Vanatta, Pearish and H. Murrow.

With the wins, the Cubs improved to 10-0 in Tri-Valley League play.

They hosted Oswego in non-league play Friday.
