Despite their season ending a game earlier than they would have liked, the Humboldt Cubs still raked in the post-season spoils after earning 14 All-Tri-Valley League football honors.

Four Cubs were named to the first team led by senior quarterback Dagen Goodner who ended his only season at quarterback throwing for 933 yards on 48-90 passing with 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Goodner was also one of two 1,000-yard rushers for the Cubs, ending the year with 1,126 yards on 109 carries for 20 touchdowns.

Joining Goodner in the 1,000-yard club was junior running back Conor Haviland who ended the year with 1,687 yards on 145 carries. Haviland ran for 32 touchdowns and caught three touchdowns during the season. Haviland also had 220 receiving yards on 11 catches.

Tucker Hurst earned first-team honors in his first season at tight end and ended the year as the team’s leading receiver with 283 yards on 14 catches and four touchdowns. Hurst also ran for 100 yards on 13 carries.

Junior Josh Hull helped all of the above happen with first-team offensive line honors and also earned second-team honors on the defensive line. Hull ended the year with 23 tackles and six tackles for loss.

Hurst and Goodner, also earned second-team defensive honors. A linebacker, Goodner led Humboldt in tackles with 87 total including seven tackles for loss. Hurst, a defensive tackle, had 59 tackles with 17 of them being for loss and a team-high seven sacks.

Senior defensive tackle David Watts had the fifth-most tackles on the team with 57 but what was most impressive about that is that nearly half of those (23) were for loss, a team-high. He also had four sacks and two interceptions.

Senior linebacker Reid Barnett had 64 tackles, 10 of which were for loss, four interceptions and four fumble recoveries and senior defensive back Kyler Allen had 27 tackles, two for loss and an interception.

The Cubs also had three offensive honorable mention picks including offensive linemen Taylor Lassman, Caleb Klauman and Watts. Each was instrumental in the Cubs’ offensive success this season.

Haviland earned defensive honorable mention at defensive back after grabbing four interceptions for 114 yards and 50 tackles including three for loss.

The Cubs lose 11 seniors off of last year’s 11-1 sectional championship team but still return all-league talent in Haviland and Hull for 2019.
