HUMBOLDT had control early, jumping to a 16-7 lead, but also never replicated its first-quarter efficiency.

Heritage Christian stayed within shouting distance over the second and third periods, and then ended the game with a 17-point fourth quarter to make things respectable.

“A win is a win, no matter how ugly,” Humboldt head coach Aubrey Jones said. “We got off to a good start, and I don’t know if we got a little too excited, or a little too comfortable, but we got a little out of control. We were able to rein it in, and we finished it out. I’m probably the only one who will remember it was ugly.”

Winter Snyder propelled Humboldt’s attack with 14 points, but Jones singled out Emma Johnson and Karly Wools as key figures in the win.

“They stepped up huge,” Jones said. “They’re always in the right place at the right time. It was nice to see them getting the results.”

Johnson scored 11 points for Humboldt; Wools scored eight.

Aysa Benally led Heritage Christian with 11 points.
