LAWRENCE — Humboldt High traveled to Rim Rock Saturday to compete in the 3A state cross country meet.

Sophomore Drew Wilhite finished 34th as an individual with a time of 17:53. His time was nearly 40 seconds faster from when the girls and boys teams competed at Rim Rock earlier in the season.

For Lady Cubs, Lulu Melendez continued her record-breaking freshman year with a 53rd place finish (22:34). Her time at the state meet was close to a minute faster than her previous race. Meina Hess improved her Rim Rock time by two minutes, finishing 77th (24:08) at the state meet.

Leah Mueller tied her personal best time (24:11), and finished in 86th place. Briana Baker set a personal record, completing the course in 25:02 to earn 86th place. Taylor Korte placed 90th (25:51), improving her Rim Rock time by nearly three minutes. The final runner competing for the Lady Cubs was Peyten Galloway, who placed 95th (27:12), and saw her time improve by nearly two-and-a-half minutes.

To qualify for state, the girls’ team had finished third and Wilhite had placed sixth to qualify as an individual at the regional meet in Garnett.

No Humboldt runners earned any medals Saturday, but reaching state is on its own a big improvement for the Cubs.
