Cub track athletes start season well

RICHMOND  — Humboldt High’s track athletes tasted their first competition of the 2012 season last Friday at the Central Heights High Invitational.

Tanner McNutt was a triple gold-medal winner for the Cubs. McNutt won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 6 1/2”. He landed another gold in the sand pits with first in the triple jump at 42’3 3/4”.

McNutt collected a gold on the track, winning the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 5 seconds. He earned the silver medal in the 200-meter dash in 24.2 seconds.

Nick Keazer, Logan Yokum, Ethan Bartlett and Zack Osborne combined for a sixth-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay race. The Cubs’ time was 9:50.

Shayli Ellis captured the silver medal in the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.3 seconds. She was fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.8 seconds and tied for sixth in the 200-meter dash in 30.5 seconds.

Darrah Tinkler placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 73’8”.

The Lady Cubs’ 4×800-meter relay team of Michaela Bartlett, Kristin Todd, Brook Boatwright and Kolbyn Allen earned the bronze medal in 12:47. Bartlett, Boatwright and Allen were joined by Ellis in the 4×100-meter relay race and they placed fifth in 59.2 seconds.

The Humboldt track teams are at Eureka today.
