The Cubs trailed by as much as 20 points at Leon-Bluestem on Tuesday. Despite a poor first two quarters, Humboldt reached down inside and came back to earn a 61-57 win.
“I told them that they made that bed and they were going to have to lie in it,” head coach Dave Taylor said. “And to their credit, they pulled it out. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen a comeback like that in my career. We showed some real mental toughness.”
The Cubs trailed by 11 after the first quarter and 15 at the half. A 14-13 third quarter for Bluestem pushed their lead to 16 going into the fourth. A 28-8 fourth quarter gave Humboldt the boost they needed to get the win.
