High School Track and Field: Humboldt Cubs
The Humboldt track and field team was in action twice last week. The Cubs traveled to Burlington on Tuesday before competing at Neodesha on Thursday.
At the Wildcat Invitational in Burlington, the Cub boys came away with a first-place finish as a team while the girls finished third.
Colin Gillespie led the way with three top-three finishes including first place finishes in both the 300-meter hurdles
(46.85) and the high jump (58).
Tucker Hurst finished first in the shot put (414) and second in both the discus (1342) and the javelin (1499.75).
Isiah Coronado finished first in the 100 (11.82) and second in the 400 (55.66).
Caleb Coronado finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:20.86.
The girls were led by Kaylie Johnson who finished first in the triple jump (344) and second in the long jump (158.75).
Britnee Works finished first in the high jump with a height of 410.
Lizzie Myers finished second in the 800 (2:46.8), Savanna Puckett finished third in the long jump (148.25) and the 4×100 relay team of Johnson, Myers, Puckett and Zoey Wilson finished second (53.10).
At Neodesha, both teams finished fourth with the boys ending up just a point out of third.
Hurst went 1-2-3 in his three events including a first-place finish in the javelin (14811), a second-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 436 which was a personal record and a third-place finish in discus 1322.
Colin Gillespie got another first-place finish in the high jump with a height of 62.
The girls were led by the 4×400 team of Johnson, Puckett, Myers and Jessica Myers who finished first with a time of 4:22.84.
The 4×100 team of Johnson, Wilson, Myers, and Puckett finished second with a time of 53.13.
