After not finishing quite like they wanted to in their home tournament last week, the Humboldt baseball and softball teams came back strong and swept Lebo-Waverly on Friday at home.
Baseball won 10-0 and 7-5 while softball won 7-2 and 14-6. Baseball moves to 14-2 while softball moves to 13-3.
The baseball Cubs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one after two innings and added four in the fourth and three in the fifth to put the game away in five innings.
Xavier Bauer was the pitcher behind the shutout, allowing just four hits and three walks in his five innings of work.
Gunner Elder was the lone multi-hit Cub of the night but Dagen Goodner and Taylor Lassman both chipped in doubles.
In game two, Lebo jumped out to a 5-0 lead thanks to a four-run third inning. Humboldt rallied back and scored two in the fifth and five in the sixth to pull ahead and eventually win the game.
Dagen Goodner earned the win in relief, coming in during the third and allowing just two hits and four walks in his 4.2 innings pitched. He struck out six.
Josh Hull doubled in the game and Jackson Aikins hit an inside-the-park grand slam.
Meanwhile, softball got off to a very similar start in game one, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Lebo-Waverly added runs in the fifth and sixth to get within five but that would be all.
Brooklyn Ellis earned her 11th win of the year, allowing two runs on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Kirsten Roush hit a grand slam.
In game two, after three scoreless innings, The Lady Cubs scored seven runs in the top of the fourth. Lebo-Waverly responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and then two more in the fifth to get within a run with two innings to play.
Humboldt struck back big though with seven more runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away.
Morgan Mauk had three hits in the game and four stolen bases followed by two hits each for Sydney Barker, Ellis and Emma Carson.
Ellis allowed six runs on six hits with three strikeouts from the mound in the win.
Humboldt will play Caney Valley a week from today.
