COLONY — Casey Cook lived a coach’s dream Monday.

Her Crest High softball team took control early and never let up against an overmatched St. Paul squad, winning 23-2 and 20-2 in the Lady Lancers’ season-opener.

“That’s exactly what I wanted to happen,” Cook said. “My starting pitcher came out and threw the ball well. Our defense got their jitters out of the way.

“What I wanted, if we could get ahead, was to get our other girls in there, and I was able to do that. I don’t know how many times we’ll be able to do that this season.”

The only blemish on the day came when Kayla Hermreck was injured in the second game, while rounding second base. She had to be helped from the field.

Crest High’s Lindsey Godderz delivers a pitch in the Lady Lancers’ doubleheader sweep of St. Paul Monday.

“Kayla tweaked her ankle a little bit. We’re going to keep our eye on it, but we think she’ll be OK.”

Lindsay Godderz allowed three hits in three innings of work in the opener, none after the first inning. She struck out five.

At the plate, Aubrey Holloran and Allyssa Adams both had a single and double, Hermreck singled, Sydney Stephens singled twice, Andi Burnett notched a double.

IN GAME TWO, Godderz and Brooklynn Jones combined to allow a single hit in three innings of work with five strikeouts.

Holloran had a triple, while Adams and Burnett both had doubles. Anna Hermreck and Stephens both singled.

Lady Lancer batters worked St. Paul pitchers for 31 walks in the doubleheaders and six hit batters.

Crest hosts Uniontown Thursday.
