Crest splits with MVHS at home

Crest and Marmaton Valley softball battled it out in Kincaid on Thursday and each team walked away with a win. The Lady Lancers crushed the Wildcats in game one, 14-3, before Marmaton Valley responded back with an 8-7 win in game two. 

With the split, Crest moves to 5-9 this season while Marmaton Valley continues to be at .500 at 8-8. 

In game one, The Lady Lancers rode a big, 11-run, first inning to their five-inning win. 

They added two more in the third before Marmaton Valley put up three runs of its own in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 10. 

Crest added a final insurance run in the fourth and the game ended a half-inning later. 

Ridley Black earned the win, allowing three runs on seven hits and four walks with a strikeout. 

Black and Jewel Armstrong each had two hits. 

Karlie Stephens got the start for Marmaton Valley after allowing nine runs (five earned) on a hit and three walks while hitting three batters, all before getting the first out of the game. 

Wildcat defenders committed seven errors in the game. 

Kayla Ard took over and managed to close out the four innings, allowing six hits on five runs (none earned) with a walk and four strikeouts. 

Patricia Outlan had two hits in the game for Marmaton Valley. 

In game two, things were much more even. 

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-1 start after two innings before a four-run bottom of the third pushed the Lady Lancers ahead 5-4. 

Marmaton Valley tied things up in the top of the fourth with a run and then took a big lead in the top of the sixth after Stephens hit a three-run homer. 

Crest responded with two runs of its own in the sixth but the Lancers couldn’t catch up, stranding runners on second and third.
