COLONY — Crest’s Kobey Miller has been an integral part of the Lancer teams’ success in multiple sports through his high school career.

But rodeoing is where his passion lies.

“I’ve been on a horse since I was little bitty,” the CHS senior said Monday. “I’ve just always wanted to do rodeo.”

Miller, son of Brandt and Aundi Miller, signed a letter of intent Monday to attend Fort Scott Community College and compete with the FSCC rodeo team.

He’ll likely focus on calf roping and team roping (once he gets a partner.)

“I’ve rodeoed at Fort Scott before, I’ve practiced at Fort Scott before,” he said. “ A lot of my buddies are going to Fort Scott currently. It just felt like a really, really good fit.”

His final year as a high-schooler began last fall before a winter break. The spring and summer season will take him to events across Kansas and into Oklahoma.

While at FSCC, Miller is considering studying herd management, “but that’s not 100% yet,” he said.

Miller was the Lancers’ leading scorer on the basketball court, averaging more than 14 points and 5 rebounds a game. He averaged 13 points per game as a junior as well.

On the gridiron, he pulled in nine catches and had a touchdown for the Lancers, who won their first 10 games and advanced to the Kansas Eight-Man-II state quarterfinal round.

On hand for the signing were Miller’s parents, his siblings, his long-time rodeo coach Wade Wilson and FSCC head rodeo coach Chad Cross.
