BURLINGTON — Crest High has two girls and two boys state-bound in Kansas class 1A track competition. Southern Coffey County High will send two girls to the 2012 Kansas High School All-Class State Track and Field Championships.
Crest and Southern Coffey County competed in last Friday’s Kansas Class 1A Regional Track Meet hosted by SCCH at Burlington.
Junior Kurston Gilliland claimed the silver medal in the girls’ shot at the regional for Crest. Gilliland was second with a throw of 36 feet, 6 1/2 inches, with teammate Krystal Cooper in seventh at 28’4”.
Crest senior Katrina Strickler placed third in the javelin with a throw of 113’6” to qualify for state. Teammates Shayla Stephens was fifth in the javelin at 113’6” and Gilli-land was sixth at 110’8 1/2”. Southern Coffey County’s Katelyn Rogers was 11th at 86’4”.
Southern Coffey County’s Sarah Webb, a junior, earned the bronze medal in the high jump, clearing 4’8”. SCCH senior Ashton Isch will return to the state meet in the triple jump after finishing third at the regional at 32’11 1/2”. Crest’s Strickler was 10th at 36’5 1/4”.
Crest High’s senior Jayden Bowen earned a trip to state with a third-place throw of 42’1” in the shot. He fouled all three attempts in the discus.
Jordan Morton, Crest junior, captured the silver medal in the javelin with a toss of 159’8”. Southern Coffey County’s Aaron True was eighth at 135’9 1/2”.
In other girls’ events at the 1A regional:
Southern Coffey County’s Martyna Hegwald was fifth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 55.72 seconds. Jenna Witteman placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 14.14 seconds and eighth in the 200-meter dash in 29.23 seconds.
Also from SCCH, Jessica Cole was eighth in the 1600-meter run in 6 minutes, 54.82 seconds. The Lady Titans’ 4×400-meter relay team of Witteman, Webb, Isch and Martyna Hegwald was seventh in 4:47.69.
Crest’s Emily Frank placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.84 and Brianna Scovill was seventh in the 800-meter run in 3:06.68. Tiffany Jackman finished 14th in the long jump with a leap of 12’11”.
Gilliland was sixth in the discus with a throw of 93’6”. Myranda Hegwald of SCCH was 10th in the event at 79’5” and Crest’s Regan Morrison was 13th at 62’10”.
In other boys’ events:
Crest’s Chris Brallier placed 10th in the 400-meter dash in 57.90 seconds. He was 11th in the triple jump at 36’3 3/4”. Crest’s Codi Vermillion was 15th in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 53.11 seconds.
The Crest 4×400-meter relay team of Cole Bowen, Brallier, Morton and Rene Rodriguez was eighth in 4:17.37.
