Crest cruises past Wildcats

Crest High's Lancers stayed atop the Three Rivers League standings Thursday after cruising to 11-0 and 14-2 wins over Marmaton Valley.

MORAN — Crest High continues to demonstrate that all roads to the top of the Three Rivers League go through Colony.

The three-time defending TRL champion Lancers continued their league dominance Thursday with 11-0 and 14-2 victories over Marmaton Valley.

Crest took control from the outset, scoring five times in the top of the first and four more in the third.

Meanwhile, Lancer hurlers Drake Weir and Roy Gordon limited Marmaton Valley to three hits.

Kade Nilges paced Crest’s offense with a single and double, while Jerry Rodriguez singled twice. Logan Kistner added a double. Henry White and Rogan Weir added singles.

Dominic Smith singled and doubled to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Brayden Lawson chipped in with a single.

Drake Weir threw four innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts. Gordon struck out three batters in his inning of relief. He also allowed a hit.

Daniel Fewins started for Marmaton Valley, giving up three hits over two innings and striking out three. Brevyn Campbell allowed four hits over three innings with two strikeouts.

A SIMILAR pattern followed in Game 2. Crest led 3-0 after half an inning and 6-0 before Marmaton Valley dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the third.

Crest responded with a flourish, plating six in the fourth to put the game away.

Kade Nilges shut down the Wildcat bats for Crest, allowing three hits and striking out six over four innings. Kistner pitched a hitless inning of relief, striking out one.

White and Drake Weir each had a single and double. Rodriguez added a double. Kistner and Rogan Weir added one single apiece.

Garrett Morrison, Smith, Campbell and Lawson shared pitching duties, allowing a combined seven hits with four strikeouts. Marmaton Valley’s only hits came on a Lawson double and singles by Ty Lord and Smith.
