COLONY — The Crest High baseball team laid it on Uniontown at home Thursday.

The Lancers (6-0) proved why they are being considered a front-runner for the Class 1A state championship title. Pitchers Trevor Church and Ryan Golden combined to pick up 10-1 and 11-0 victories.

Game one

Church got the start on the mound in game one and didn’t allow a run after five innings. Church struck out 11 and allowed only seven baserunners, three of them on fielding errors.

As usual, Crest didn’t waste any time jumping out to a big lead. Church singled to lead off, followed by Stetson Setter, who smacked a two-run home run to left field for the 2-0 lead. Holden Barker then singled and scored on a wild pitch followed by single from Rogan Weir, who came home to score on an Avery Blaufuss double to left for the 4-0 lead.

Weir then singled and scored on a Golden single in the bottom of the third for the 5-0 advantage.

Before the Uniontown Eagles could manage any sort of offense against Church, the Lancers scored another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Barker doubled and scored on a Weir RBI single and then Weir scored on a Golden RBI single for the 7-0 lead.

Crest’s Jack White relieved Church on the mound in the sixth. White served up the lone run of the game to Andrew Buckman after he reached on a fielder’s choice. The Uniontown run was brought home on a Dalton Woods RBI single to make it a 7-1 ballgame in the sixth.

Then when Crest came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, they put the finishing touches on a nine-run victory when Church, White and Setter each came around to score either on bases loaded walks or a sacrifice fly for the 10-1 win.

Crest picked up 14l hits while Church and Weir each led with a team-high three hits. Setter and Weir each knocked in a team-high three runs.

Game two

The Lancers made quicker work of Uniontown in game two as they secured an 11-0 run-rule victory.

Golden lasted three innings on the mound before Blaufuss pitched the fourth inning in relief. Golden allowed eight base runners including three hits and five walks. Blaufuss then allowed three baserunners all on walks.

The closest Uniontown came to scoring was when they got a runner to third base in the top of the second inning against Golden. The next two batters struck out and flew out to end the inning and keep Crest’s lead at 3-0.

Crest brought three runs to the plate in the first inning after Church walked, White reached on an error and Barker singled up the middle. Blaufuss drove home the third run on an RBI groundout to second base.
