YATES CENTER — The Crest High volleyball team broke its school record for the most wins for the second straight year on Tuesday when they defeated Yates Center.
The 27th victory put them one ahead of last year’s record.
The Lady Lancers (27-7; 9-2) lost to Southeast Cherokee before beating Yates Center.
Crest fell to Southeast Cherokee in two sets, 25-22 and 25-18.
“We played really flat, with little intensity,” Crest head coach Abigail Hermreck said. “It was ugly. Southeast played with intensity and out-played us. I have to say that the girls didn’t give up and rallied back from a nine-point deficit making the score look a lot better. I was proud of them for not giving up.”
Crest then got by Yates Center in two sets, 25-16 and 25-17.
The Lady Lancers served well as a team, going 85-for-91 from the serving line, including 16 aces.
Kayla Hermreck led the Lady Lancers with a team-high 28 kills while going for six assists, eight digs and two blocks. Kinley Edgerton led Crest with 14 digs and 15 assists and went a perfect 100% from the serving line with seven aces.
Karlee Boots recorded five kills, one assist and 13 digs. Kaelin Nilges had six aces while going for three kills and six digs. Aylee Beckmon had two aces, three kills and two assists. Cursten Allen registered five digs and led the team in serve receive passing at 75%.
Brooklyn Jones went eight-for-12 from the serving line with one ace.
Crest travels to Moran for the Class 1A substate tournament on Sat., Oct. 21.
