ARMA — The Lancer express continues to steamroll through its opponents on the baseball diamond.
Crest High improved to 8-0 with a doubleheader romp over Northeast-Arma Monday, rolling to wins of 14-3 and 16-2.
The Lancers scored early and often in both contests.
The big blow in the opener was an eight-run third inning to put the Lancers in front, 12-0, behind the ensemble pitching of Kobey Miller, Tyson Hermreck, Trevor Church and Ethan Goddderz, who combined to allow five hits and no earned runs in seven innings of work. The quartet combined to strike out nine and walk nine.
Stratton McGhee led the office with a double and home run with six RBIs. Trevor Church added a double and triple, while Jack White notched three singles. Stetson Setter, Holden Barker and Rogan Weir all singled.
The drumbeat of Crest hits continued in the nightcap.
The Lancers pushed ahead 5-0 by the end of the second inning and 10-0 by the top of the sixth. A six-run seventh inning was the fitting topper.
Crest pounded out 13 hits in the victory. Setter had a single and home run with five RBIs. Barker doubled and tripled with three RBIs. Avery Blaufuss added a single and double, while McGhee had a double. Church singled twice, while Miller, White, Weir and Logan Kistner added singles.
Crest hosts Oswego next Monday.
MEANWHILE, Crest High’s softball team learned firsthand the fickle nature of momentum.
Six days after racking up 47 runs in a pair of wins over Southeast-Cherokee, the Lady Lancer scored a combined four runs — none in Game 2 — in dropping both games of their doubleheader, 11-4 and 10-0.
Northeast led 5-0 after one and 9-0 after two innings of the opener before Crest scored its first run in the top of the fourth. But the Lady Lancers left the bases loaded in the frame.
Anna Hermreck, Kaylee Allen and Aubree Holloran opened the fifth with singles to score another run, but again the rally was cut short without any other damage.
Lonna Ayers and Allen each singled and scored in the top of the sixth to round out Crest’s attack.
For the game, Anna Hermreck and Ayers both singled twice, while Holloran, Lindsay Godderz, Kayla Hermreck, Sydney Stephens and Allen all singled once.
VIVIAN NOAH and Kayla Hermreck hit back-to-back singles in the fourth inning of Game 2, but that was the only offense the Lady Lancers could produce against Northeast pitcher S Underwood.
Meanwhile, the Vikings again put the game away early, scoring three times in the first and four more in the second to take control.
