Dierks and Kyron Kegler traveled to Colorado Springs last month to compete at the Regional Elks Hoop Shoot. The pair was shooting for a chance to reach the national hoop shoot scheduled for Chicago on April 18, which has been canceled.

If the brothers had reached the national shoot, and won their age group, they would’ve had their names sketched in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The good news is Kyron sunk 25/25 to win his age group, and clinch a spot at the national hoop shoot. Older brother Dierk’s streak of two consecutive trips to nationals came to an end, taking second place in his age group at regionals.

With the rapid spread of COVID-19, the national contest was canceled versus postponed, but the Kegler family is optimistic that the Elks will still find a way to crown a national champion. In Colorado Springs at the regional shoot, Kyron shot an extra 25 free throws, to chart it down just in case there was a way to formulate a national champion.

So far those numbers haven’t been used, and on the Elks hoop-shoot website, they have not announced any plans to formulate a national champion.
