Competitors target area trap shoot

ELSMORE — Don Budd of Kansas City, Kan., claimed the singles championship for the Kansas Trap Shooting Association (KTA) Eastern Zone. Budd hit 195 clay targets out of 200 Sunday for the in-zone title.
Budd also was the high all-around winner of the zone shoot held Saturday and Sunday at Lone Tree Gun Club. There were 44 shooters in the singles championships on Sunday.
Preliminary competitions were held Saturday at the gun club. The championship classes were contested on Sunday.
“We had shooters from our zone in Kansas but also from western Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Missouri,” said Betty Wrestler, who owns and operates Lone Tree Gun Club with her husband Ron.
There were 30 shooters in the championship handicap class and 24 shooters in the doubles championship.
The out-of-zone winner in the singles championship was Larry Tagtmeyer with a 195 score. In class B championship, Jim Rowe was the in-zone champion and Donald Kalinowski was the out-of-zone.
In class C, Glen Bodenhamer broke 178 targets for the in-zone title and Lester Sims hit 182 for the out-zone. Class D in-zone winner was Garett Seuser with a 182 and Jim Beiter was the out-of-zone winner at 183.
Richard Diehl was the class C in-zone doubles championship winner, breaking 89 of 100 targets. The in-zone sub junior doubles champion was Tapanga Turner, hitting 88 targets. The in-zone doubles championship winner was Ron Beach with a 97.
The handicap in-zone winner was Rick Stephens of Bronson with a 94, at the 19-21.5 yard mark.
On Saturday in the preliminary handicap there was a tie at the 25-27-yard distance as Virgil Tucker of Moran and James Kuhn, both in-zone, hit 94 targets. Anthony Tucker was an in-zone winner with a score of 91 and Turner was the ladies division in-zone winner at 87.
Other winners: preliminary handicap — out-of-zone- Clayton Moniot, 94; veteran class-Glen Bodenhamer, 84; senior veteran-Donald Kalinowski, 82; doubles championship — out-of-zone-Trevor Shockley, 88; senior veteran out-of-zone-Everett Watkins, 84; championship handicap — out-of zone-Everett Watkins, 90, 19-21.5 yards; out-of-zone Trevor Shockley, 86, 25-27 yards; junior out-of-zone-Clayton Moniot, 92, 19-21.5 yards; out-of-zone- Thomas Hairston, 89, 22-25.5 yards.
