Tryouts for the third season of Allen County Aces Volleyball Club action are Sunday, Nov. 13.
There are tryouts for five age groups — 13-and-under, 14-and-under, 15-and-under, 16-and-under and 17-and-under.
There is a $10 tryout fee per person. Club tryouts are at Iola High School.
Tryouts for the 13-and-under and 14-and-under teams are from noon to 2 p.m. Tryouts for the 15-and-under, 16-and-under and 17-and-under teams are 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Allen County Aces club director Jodi Grover, who is also Iola High head volleyball coach, said several items needed to be filled out and sent to the club by Friday, Nov. 11. No one will be allowed to tryout without those items on file.
Those items are a 2011-2012 USA Youth and Junior Player medical history and release form, the Allen County Aces tryout form, the tryout fee of $10 and a copy of the Heart of America Region-USA Volleyball 2011-2012 membership card. To register with USA Volleyball go to hoavb.org. The fee is $50.
“They can bring all those items the day of tryouts but it all has to be filled out and the registration with USA Volleyball has to be done online,” Grover said.
Grover said if a player is not selected for a team with the Allen County Aces, she can apply for a refund of her individual registration fee up until Dec. 31.
“Club volleyball is a way to teach fundamentals and teamwork,” Grover said. “Club volleyball’s mission is to support and guide all athletes to become the best volleyball player they can be.”
Following the tryouts, seven or nine players will be offered a position on each team.
The Allen County Aces teams will play in Heart of America volleyball tournaments. Play begins January and can run through April.
Grover said she will meet with parents while tryouts are going on. She will explain the cost of being on a team, which includes an HOA membership, tournament, club and uniform fees.
Tryout registration forms were distributed to Iola and area schools. Registration can be done the day of the tryouts. Forms have to be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian plus the tryout fee.
