HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Middle School boys varsity team suffered another lopsided loss on Monday when Cherryvale cruised to a 48-19 win.
Humboldt coach Jeremy Weilert, though, was focused on the progress his group is making instead of the final score.
“We did a much better job of handling their pressure,” Weilert said. “We just didn’t do enough on the (defensive) end to slow them down. I thought, we got better tonight, despite what the score says.”
Weilert credited Cherryvale after the game for its strong play.
“Cherryvale is a very good team,” Weilert said. “They have a good mix of post players and outside shooters. They made eight three-pointers against us.”
Humboldt’s Drew Wilhite scored nine points and had four steals. Thane Meadows had five points and six rebounds.
Drake Harrington scored three points and had two steals while Drew Schoendaller had two points and four rebounds.

JUNIOR VARSITY
The Humboldt junior varsity team lost to Cherryvale 42-19.
“We didn’t take care of the ball tonight,” Humboldt coach Jeremy Weilert said. “They put a little bit of pressure on us and we turned the ball over more times than I thought we should have.”
Ethan Doepke led the Cubs with eight points and seven rebounds. Trenton Johnson added six points.
Andrew Comstock and Sam Neeley each had two points while Aden Kelley rounded out the scoring with one point.

C-TEAM
Humboldt’s C-Team lost 31-17 against Cherryvale.
Humboldt seventh-grader Aden Kelley led the team with 11 points and five steals.
“Aden played one of his best games of the year,” Humboldt coach Jeremy Weilert said.
Sam Neeley, Andrew Comstock and Colton Slocum each scored two points.

Humboldt will face Caney Valley in Caney on Thursday.
