Charity golf event is a success

GAS — CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the 31st Judicial District held its 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on June 17, to celebrate Father’s Day and the important role that fathers play in raising children, as well as to have some fun on the golf course.
The tournament was held at the Allen County Country Club and hosted by District Court Judges Daniel Creitz and David Rogers. 
Tournament proceeds are used to support CASA, which recruits, trains and supports volunteer advocates who the judges assign to children who have been abused or neglected and found by the court to be “in need of care.”
With a 17-team field, the competition was divided into flights to make it fair for all skill levels and included additional golfing contests. 
Coming in first in the A-Flight was the McGuffin–Travers Team with members John Travers, Jr., Kevin McGuffin, Kortney McGraw and Ken McGuffin. John Travers also won the Men’s Longest Drive contest. Coming in second in the A-Flight was the Nelson Quarries team with members Langley Martin, Patrick Clift, Travis Coffield and Ken Nelson.

In B Flight the 1st Place Team was J.C. Electrical Solutions with members Whitney Kerr, Tim Stinnett, Michael Covey and Mindy Covey. Mindy also won the Women’s Longest Drive contest. B Flight 2nd place was the Bank of Commerce Team consisting of players Kraig Follmer, John Guinotte, Jerry Bowman and Tony Larocca.

In C Flight Community National Bank took 1st Place with team members Tom Strickler, Drake Sell, Jeremy Waldman and Mike Waldman. The C Flight 2nd Place winner was Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center Team (NMRMC) with members Lance and Stephanie Bedell and Pete and Darlene Meats.

In the remaining golf contests Chloe Hageman of the Sonic Equipment Team won Women’s Closest to the Pin and Dan Bruner of the Copy Products Team won Men’s Closest to the Pin contest.

There were clubhouse activities going on during the tournament including a Silent Auction that included golfing trips, lodging and dinner at Prairie Band Casino and Firewater Golf Club, Allen County Country Club and Super 8 Hotel, Stone Creek Golf Course, Super 8 and Dalton’s Back 9 Steakhouse and a weekend hunting trip to Flint Oak Sports Resort. There was also a raffle held with 35 different gifts donated by local sponsors. The tournament was again underwritten by Ash Grove Cement, Peck Brothers Cattle, Community National Bank and Hofer, Hofer & Associates with gold sponsorships by B & W Trailer Hitches, Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Nelson Quarries and Copy Products, Inc. in addition to  more than 80 other sponsors.

CASA also thanks the 68 players who played in the tournament and those businesses and individuals that sponsored teams.  The delicious luncheon was provided by Hofer, Hofer & Associates with help from CASA Board Members Kelly Diller, Becky Leis, Cynthia Jacobson, Cindy Adams, Jim Porter, Melinda Seamster, Amy Welch, Mike Hofer and Mary Knapp. Coffee, donuts, water and ice were supplied by Prairie Fire Coffee, Walmart Chanute,  Orscheln Farm & Home and Pump’n Pete’s respectively.  All funds raised from this tournament will remain within the 31st Judicial District including Allen, Neosho, Woodson and Wilson Counties to help serve abused children here in the court system.  CASA thanks everyone for their generosity in helping to fund the CASA program which is so important in providing advocate services to children.
