LE ROY A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a mural depicting Hall of Fame high school football coach Bill Freeman is planned for Oct. 26, and will feature former NFL quarterback Lynn Dickey.
Freeman coached his high school teams to eight state champions, including one at Le Roy, and two in track and field.
Dickey played for Freeman at Osawatomie before going on to star on the gridiron at Kansas University. He then played 14 years in the NFL, first with the Houston Oilers, then with the Green Bay Packers, earning all pro status in 1983.
The ribbon cutting will take place at 11 a.m. next to the mural on the side of the Assembly of God Church activity building in Le Roy.
The scene shifts to the Le Roy Library afterward for lunch. Dickey will sign autographs as well.
Several prizes will be given away during the festivities.
Freeman, who also was active in banking and as Le Roy mayor for several years, died in 2015.
