Burlington takes two from Yates Center

YATES CENTER —  Taking on Burlington High’s teams for the second time in the same week, Yates Center High’s basketball teams dropped a pair of Tri-Valley League contests Thursday.
Burlington’s girls defeated the Yates Center girls 44-19. Burlington led 20-8 at halftime.
“The girls played hard and did a great job on defense,” said Abbie Collins, YCHS girls’ head coach. “We just couldn’t get any shots to fall and we have to take care of the ball.”
Cherokee Shaffer led Yates Center with seven points and four steals. Autumn Douglas had 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Kassy Reynolds had nine rebounds and four blocks.
Burlington’s boys used a 12-7 surge in the third quarter to to get more of an edge against Yates Center. Burlington had to hold off Yates Center down the stretch in a 70-62 win.
Burlington held a 41-34 halftime lead. Yates Center staged a rally, outscoring Burlington 21-17 in the fourth quarter but came up short.
Dylan Sicka, Paul Stockebrand and Jacob Morrison each had 13 points for Yates Center.
Yates Center hosts Neodesha tonight to finish its regular season. It begins Class 1A regional tournament, which Yates Center is hosting, next week.
