Burlington rolls past Lady Cubs

HUMBOLDT — The Lady Cubs have had better nights.
Humboldt High lostto an undefeated Burlington Wildcats squad, 63-9. The Cubs had a mere four field goals.
The Wildcats held the home team scoreless in the first quarter, 16-0. Kayle Riebel hit the first field goal early in the second quarter, on a drive to the basket. The Wildcats went on another nine-point run before Sheri Middleton completed a three-point play from the foul line to make the score 25-5 with five minutes left in the quarter. The teams finished up the half with the Wildcats up 43-5.
Burlington led 57-5 going into the fourth.
Breanna Kline hit two field goals back-to-back with just three minutes remaining for Humboldt.
Kline led the Cubs with four points, followed by Middleton with three and Riebel with two. Morgan Morris pulled down six boards, Kline had one steal and Middleton had six blocks.
Madison Stewart led the Wildcats with 17 points, Breanna Bluma had 14.
Despite the loss, head coach Sherri Nelson had encouraging words for her team.
“The Cubs struggled to score against Burlington, but our defense was the one thing we were proud of,” Nelson said in an email. “We are one of four teams to hold them (Burlington) under 65 points. This loss in no way defines the progress of the kids.”
