HUMBOLDT — Winding up a big Memorial Day Weekend of racing at Humboldt Speedway, Brian Bolin edged out John Allen at the finish line to win the modified $1,000-to-win feature race Sunday.
In the Duane Whitworth Memorial races, Brian Bolin was the modified winner while Ron Bolin Jr. captured the win in the B-mod feature. Ron Bolin drove the Whitworth Construction No. 63 to victory.
The Speedway had its regular show on Friday then the Duane Whitworth Memorial on Sunday.
In Sunday’s modified race, Allen finished second followed by Rick Beebe, Dan Charles and Rodney Sigg to round out the top five. There were 20 cars in the race.
Behind Ron Bolin, Dalton Kirk drove to second place in the B-mods. Jay Lamons Jr. placed third followed by Nathan Schmidt and Jimmie Davis.
Jerry Wagner won the factory stock feature Sunday with Jeff Cleaver taking second. Running third was Doug Scism with Derrek Wilson in fourth and Blake Davis in fifth.
Mike Aiello notched another pure stock feature win Sunday. Paul Long crossed the line in second place followed by Tony Morris, Stetson Deets and Derryl Aiello.
IN FRIDAY’S regular races, Derrek Wilson took control of an intense factory stock race, featuring multiple lead changes before Wilson went to the lead for good.
Colton Bunn pushed Wilson the rest of the race but settled for second. Brandon Weide finished third followed by Blake Davis and Billy Shadden.
Dalton Kirk picked up his first B-mod win at Humboldt this season. Levi McGowen was second with Ron Bolin Jr. in third. Jimmie Davis ran fourth and Jay Lamons Jr. was fifth.
The hottest race of the night was with the modifieds. Scott Daniels earned a front row starting spot and led from the first lap to the finish line. John Allen put a lot of pressure on Daniels but couldn’t get around him.
Allen battled for second with Jesse Folk Jr. and won. Jesse Folk Jr. was third followed by Jessy Willard and Ryan Whitworth.
Laura Ramey came up short in her Humboldt debut in the pure stock feature. Jeremy Willard came from the back of the pack to win the race on the final lap.
Ramey was second followed by Mike Aiello, Floyd Taggart and David Matlock.
Race fans at Humboldt Speedway combined to raise nearly $2,000 for Kansas Relay for Life Friday. Kenny Shaw and Speedway owners Ron and Rhenda Whitworth organized the auction of racing memorablia and brand items.
This Friday the Speedway welcomes back the USMTS modified touring series. Next Friday, the Show Me Series late models will be featured at Humboldt along with the Speedway’s four regular racing divisions.
