MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats had the final shot but couldn’t get it to go in a heartbreaking 47-45 homecoming loss Friday.
Two free throws by Pleasanton High’s Rance Schoenhals broke a 45-45 tie with just seconds on the game clock.
“We got the ball to half-court and set it up. The kids did a good job and we had three that went in and came back out. We had one more shot and didn’t get it,” said Denny Lasley, Wildcat head coach.
Marmaton Valley crowned Kassandra Turner and Shawn Storrer as 2010 homecoming queen and king Friday night.
Lasley said the Wildcats dug themselves a hole early, trailing 28-14 at halftime.
“We chipped away and got it tied,” he said.
Dalton Houk fired in 16 points for the Cats. Ethan Ericson had 10 rebounds and Tanner Lewis had six assists.
Tyler Myrick had 15 points for the Jays and Jon Ransier had 12. The Blu-Jays hit 15 of 30 free throw attempts to the Cats’ 4 of 5.
Marmaton Valley is 3-4 in Three Rivers League play and 6-13 overall. The Wildcats finish the regular season Tuesday at Lyndon.
