PLEASANTON — Early struggles put Marmaton Valley High’s girls behind the eight ball the rest of the night, losing 54-40 to host Pleasanton High.
The Wildcats trailed by 10, 17-7, at the conclusion of the first quarter.
“From there, we were pretty even with them, until the end,” Wildcat head coach Kent Houk said.
Any hopes of a comeback were thwarted because of foul trouble. Three starters, Kailey Boyd, Maggie Meiwes and Jamee McEndree fouled out.
“We just weren’t as aggressive as we needed to be early in the game,” Houk said.
Pleasanton led 29-19 at halftime and 39-31 after three quarters. The Blu-Jays ended the game with a 14-9 run.
Cheyanne Miller led Marmaton Valley with 17 points, while Maggie Meiwes added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Boyd dished out five assists and McEndree had four steals.
Johnnea Saulsberry led the Blu-Jays with 12 points.
Marmaton Valley hosts Uniontown Monday in a makeup contest postponed from earlier this month due to snow.
