The Yates Center boys took their first postseason step toward a Class 2A State Tournament berth on Monday with a 51-21 home win over Uniontown.
Even though the Wildcats won by 30, they really had to work for it.
The Eagles trailed by just eight after the first quarter and nine at the half.
The undersized and young Uniontown team hung with one of the top 2A teams in the state for a full two quarters.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, it was only for two quarters. The Wildcats woke up in the third quarter and held Uniontown to just four points while growing their lead to 19.
The fourth quarter was even more dominant. Yates Center outscored Uniontown 13-2 in the fourth quarter and the competitive game had made its full metamorphosis to a blowout.
Individual stats were unavailable for Mondays game.
The Wildcats will travel down to Arma on Thursday where theyll meet four-seed Humboldt in the sub-state semifinals. The winner will be a game away from punching their ticket to the state tournament in Hays.
