HUMBOLDT — Allen Community College’s softball team had a rough go of it Friday.
Visiting Des Moines Area Community College swept a doubleheader, winning the first game, 6-0, and the second, 7-1.
Allen (3-5) is in the midst of a four-game losing streak.
Des Moines cruised in the opener behind the sterling pitching of Alexis Lander, who tossed a four-hit shutout.
She allowed a pair of singles to Aubrey Willis and singles by Alayna Brown and Mikayla Long while striking out six, with no walks.
Allen’s Cynae Wiley also went the distance. She allowed seven hits and two earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts.
Fielding issues played a role in the defeat. Allen committed four miscues afield, leading to four unearned runs.
The Bears scored one in the top of the first, tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the third and put the game away with two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
THINGS didn’t go much smoother for Allen in the second game.
The Bears smacked three home runs, a two-run shot by Kaylie Reynolds in the first and solo shots by Delaney Kelley and Sophia Maras.
Red Devil pitcher Andrea Wilson aided her own cause at the plate with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. She also hit a single.
Trista Argabright added a single and double. Bella Gravatt singled as well.
Wilson surrendered 10 hits with two strikeouts over six innings. Reliever Madelynn Collins came on in relief and retired the Bears in order with a strikeout in the seventh.
Des Moines starter Abby Flanagan struck out 11 in her complete game victory, allowing five hits and one walk.
The Red Devils travel to Wichita Tuesday to take on Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, before embarking to Fayetteville, Ark., for four games next Friday and Saturday.
