The postseason has arrived, with several area baseball and softball teams eyeing state tournament berths.
First things first, however, is the regional action, which begins Monday for most area schools.
Iola’s Class 4A softball and baseball regional seedings will be decided today.
The Mustangs, courtesy of their 15-4 mark, are likely to host a four-game pod, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
The Fillies, at 11-9, are likely to hit the road, although that won’t be known until today as well, IHS athletics director Matt Baumwart said.
The plans are already set for other area schools.
Class 4A state baseball and softball are in Salina this year.
Meanwhile, Humboldt will serve as the host site for the Class 2-1A Regional, which includes top seed Crest (19-1) which takes eighth seed Yates Center (4-14) at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Humboldt Sports Complex.
Humboldt (7-13) is the seventh seed and will take on second-seeded Lebo/Waverly (14-2) at 4 p.m.
The Crest-Yates Center winner will advance to face either Jayhawk-Linn or Central Heights at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Humboldt. If the Cubs get past Lebo/Waverly, they’ll play either Southern Lyon County or Pleasanton at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The championship game will follow at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Great Bend.
HUMBOLDT’S Lady Cubs (17-3) are the top seed in their 2-1A regional softball tournament to be held at Pittsburg State University’s Bicknell Sports Complex.
They’ll play St. Paul at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with the winner taking on either Oswego or Chetopa in a semifinal round at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
On the other side of the bracket is Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Erie, Arma-Northeast and Cherokee-Southeast. The championship is at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Marmaton Valley (13-5)) is the second seed in the Jayhawk-Linn regional, with all games in Mound City, and will take on seventh seed Marais des Cygnes Valley at 4 p.m. Monday. The winner will play either Uniontown or Central Heights at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
