Humboldt High’s Trevion Franklin etched his name into the school track and field record books Tuesday.

The Cub senior broke the school record in winning the 100-meter dash at Tuesday’s Gene Farrow Invitational, hosted by Waverly High School at Iola’s Riverside Park. The track meet drew athletes from 24 schools, big and small.

Franklin’s time edged out the mark held by former Humboldt great Tanner McNutt’s mark of 10.99 seconds, but he wasn’t finished there. Franklin also ran the 200-meter dash in a blistering 22.61 seconds to earn his second gold of the day.

There were several other standouts from Iola, Humboldt, Marmaton Valley and Southern Coffey County schools, among others.

Iola’s Keegan Hill picked up silver in the 800-meter run and bronze in the 1600. Mahalie Genoble earned a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Bethany Miller placed third in the girls discus.

Marmaton Valley’s Todd Stevenson took second in the triple jump, while teammate Brayden Lawson uncorked personal best marks in all three throwing events, including taking third in both the javelin and shot put.

Humboldt’s Carson Peters took second in the discus, while the Lady Cubs’ Karingten Hall earned third in the 100.

ORGANIZERS set up junior varsity divisions in the 100, 200 and 1600, with Iola’s Kevon Loving beating all comers to win the JV boys 200. Mahala Burris took third for IHS in the girls JV 100. Keith Gomez took third for Humboldt in the JV boys 1600.

Full results for the local athletes follow.
