Substate seedings and pairings came out Wednesday. With the regular season finished for most, area high school basketball teams are on the path for next week’s Kansas playoffs.
Crest High’s Lancers (11-8) pulled the No. 1 seed in their Kansas Class 1A, Division II substate. The Lady Lancers (3-16) are the No. 3 seed in the five-team event. The substate is hosted by Allen County Community College in Iola.
Humboldt High’s Cubs (14-6) received the No. 2 seed in the Kansas Class 3A Substate Tournament hosted by Fredonia High School. The Lady Cubs (2-18) are seeded eighth. Top seeds went to Central Heights High’s boys (17-3) and Burlington High’s girls (19-1).
Uniontown High is hosting a Kansas Class 2A Substate and joining the Eagle teams will be Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats and the Yates Center High Wildcats. Top seeds went to the Oswego High girls (18-2) and the Madison High boys (17-3).
The Eagle boys (15-5) and girls (13-7) each were seeded third in their respective brackets. Marmaton Valley boys (7-13) earned the seventh seed and Yates Center boys (1-19) are No. 8. The Yates Center girls (5-15) were seeded No. 7 and Marmaton Valley’s girls are No. 8 at 2-18.
In a Kansas Class 1A, Division I Substate hosted by St. Paul High School, Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans (8-9) were seeded No. 4 and the Titans are No. 5 at 1-16. Top seeds went to the Waverly High girls (17-2) and boys (16-3).
For substate tournament games, admission prices are set by Kansas State High School Activities Association. No school or league passes are honored at home or at host sites — Uniontown, ACCC, Fredonia, St. Paul — on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Admission prices for first-round games are $5 for adults and $4 for children (K-12). Pre-kindergarten age children are admitted free.
For semifinals and championship games, admission prices are $6 for adults and $5 for children (K-12).
Championship games at all four sites are Saturday at 6 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 p.m. for the boys.

Crest High’s boys and girls have first-round byes. The top seed on the girls’ side is Kansas School for the Deaf of Olathe (5-11) and the KSD boys (3-14) are the No. 3 seed. Both have first-round byes.
Chetopa High’s boys (7-3) and girls (4-16) have first-round byes.
In an unusual circumstances, this substate has four teams that are 0-19. The girls’ and boys’ basketball teams from Altoona-Midway High School and Elk Valley High School have identical records as of Wednesday.
