Area squads hit court at Burlington tourney

BURLINGTON — Humboldt High volleyball coach Stephanie Splechter described Saturday’s action as “a learning experience.”

“This is a tough tournament,” Peters said after Humboldt went 0-3 at the Burlington Invitational Tournament. “We played very well at times and then had times where we struggled to pass the ball. We will use this as a learning experience about what we need to do to play at a higher level.”

Humboldt dropped a 25-17, 19-25, 25-13 loss to Lebo, a 25-14, 25-15 loss to Burlington and a 25-17, 16-25, 25-21 defeat to Southern Coffey County.

Humboldt’s leading performers on the day:

— Breanna Kline, 2 aces, 17 kills, 1 set assist, 4 digs, 10 points.

— Sheri Middleton, 29 kills, 11.5 blocks, 2 set assists, 2 digs, 4 points.

— Kayle Riebel, 4 aces, 10 kills, 3 digs, 22 points.

— Anna Setter, 1 ace, 25 set assists, 1 dig, 4 points.

— Brook Turner, 5 set assists.

— Delaney Umholtz, 5 aces, 6 kills, 6 digs, 26 points.

— Annalise Whitcomb, 4 aces, 1 kill, 2 blocks, 21 set assists, 3 digs, 9 points.

As for Southern Coffey County, the Lady Titans went 1-2 on the day. In addition to the win over Humboldt, SCC fell 25-15, 25-7 to Burlington and 25-12, 25-14 to Lebo.
