WICHITA — Area athletes competed in the 2012 Kansas Special Olympics State Track and Field meet last weekend. The annual statewide event was held at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium.
The ANW Special Education Co-op Special Olympics group had eight participants in the state track and field meet. All were from Iola.
Judy Branstetter was sixth in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the running long jump. Jonathan Cress was fifth in the 50-meter dash and first in the tennis ball throw. Katlin Cress was second in the 25-meter run and second in the tennis ball throw.
Justin Narvaez took fifth in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the running long jump.
Paige Riley finished fourth in the 50-meter dash and second in the tennis ball throw.
Tyler Streeter was second in the 100-meter dash and third in the standing long jump.
Christopher White placed fourth in the 50-meter dash and third in the tennis ball throw.
Derek White was second in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the running long jump.
The ANW relay team of Narvaez, Streeter, C.White and D. White placed fifth.
Four athletes from Allen County Special Olympics participated.
From LaHarpe, Casey Riebel was fourth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the softball throw. Steven Riebel took fifth in the softball throw and second in the 25-meter assisted walk.
From Moran, Abby Westgate was seventh in the softball throw and first in the 100-meter dash and Hana Westgate placed first in the softball throw and third in the 100-meter dash.
