HUMBOLDT — The USMTS Modified Tour brought more than 50 racers from across the country when it paid its annual visit to Humboldt Speedway last weekend.
This season, Jake O’Neil from Tucson was the big winner in Friday’s 50-lap feature.
However, the Speedway also featured a full field of local action heroes in support of the main event. This is their story.
In the Love’s Travel Stops Midwest Modified feature, Jackson McGowen of Humboldt took his third win in as many weeks. Runner-up, from Chanute was Dallas Joyce, while another Chanute driver, Jon Westhoff claimed third. Braden Bowman of Chanute and Ethan Laymons of Savonburg rounded out the top five.
The dominant force in the Home Savings Bank Factory Stock division, Chanute’s Derrek Wilson, racked up yet another 2021 feature win, holding off Brandon Rice of Louisburg, while Humboldt’s Trey Stipp secured the third spot, with Brian Knisley of Coffeyville in fourth and Scott Collins of Humboldt fifth.
It was a good night for Humboldt’s racing community overall. Brandon Vink scored the USRA Tuner Feature this week. Clint Haigler of Humboldt was second, Colony pilot Johnathan Culler claimed third. Fourth went to Maddy Tyler of Parsons and Chanute’s Travis Bockover finished fifth.
The Hummer’s premier weekly class, Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mods, was captured this week by Springfield, Mo. racer Ryan Gillmore. Brian Bolin of Fort Scott took second, with Jon Sheets of Nevada in third, Gabriel Hodges of Lebo in fourth and Jake Richards of Lansing fifth.
This week’s regular Friday night session includes Kids Night activities, with driver autographs at halftime.
