Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats and Uniontown High Eagles met in Three Rivers League action on a neutral volleyball court Tuesday night.
“Our girls came out on fire against Uniontown. We were up 7-3 then Uniontown caught some momentum and pulled away,” said Lindsay Ermel, Marmaton Valley head coach.
“The girls played great against Chetopa. We have some things we need to work on the rest of this week. Passing is a big one and our net playing.”
Uniontown defeated Marmaton Valley 25-12, 25-10 on the Jayhawk-Linn High court in Mound City. The Eagles got 12 service points from Lauren Rockhold and 10 set assists from Tayler Shook. Ashley Nietfeld had four kills, Hope Jurgensen had three kills and Abby Dixon had two kills.
Marmaton Valley beat Chetopa 25-12, 25-10. Kailey Boyd had eight kills for the Wildcats. Molly McEwan was credited with five set assists and six service aces.
Marmaton Valley did not play host Jayhawk-Linn Tuesday because the two teams had already played this season.
Jayhawk-Linn rallied to beat Uniontown 20-25, 25-19, 25-22. Uniontown’s Paige Stainbrook served 13 points and Shook had 10 assists. Nietfeld downed five kills and Hayden Rathbun had four kills.
“We played tentative against them (Jayhawk-Linn) and that was my fault. I changed some things after the weekend’s action and the girls were a bit hesitant with the new look,” said Jackie Hall, UHS head coach.
“As the evening progressed, the girls seemed to relax and be more comfortable on the floor.”
The Eagles beat Chetopa 25-8, 25-3. Rathbun served 19 consecutive points and had 20 in the match. Nietfeld delivered six kills and Shook had 21 set assists.
In junior varsity play, Jayhawk-Linn beat Uniontown 25-18, 25-19 as Amber Bartlett served nine points, Brit Stokes had two kills and Emily Shinn had four kills. Uniontown beat Chetopa 25-11, 25-9 with Tyeesha Perry serving eight points and Shinn having three kills. Jayhawk-Linn beat Uniontown 29-27, 25-17 as Jana Wilkinson served for seven points and Perry had two kills.
Playing on their home court Tuesday, Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs took a split. They lost to Frontenac in three sets then defeated Yates Center.
Frontenac downed Humboldt 25-14, 20-25, 25-15. Hannah McCall had six kills at the net, served two aces and had four defensive digs for the Lady Cubs. Kindahl Young downed six kills and had one block.
Sheri Middleton made five blocks at the net and had four kills. Anna Setter and Morgan Morris each were credited with seven set assists. Taylyn Wells had four digs.
“We played well at times. Frontenac is a good team and we had some long rallies. We are getting closer to being able to play at that level,” said Stephanie Splechter, Humboldt head coach.
The Lady Cubs beat Yates Center 25-11, 25-16. McCall racked up nine kills while Middleton had six blocks and five kills. Setter had nine assists and Morris had six assists. Morris also served eight points, three coming on ace serves.
“We played very well in this match. The girls were aggressive at the net and hit the ball hard,” Splechter said.
