Area prep track athletes are TRL champs

MOUND CITY — Marmaton Valley High’s boys captured five event titles at the 2012 Three Rivers League track meet Thursday. Crest High claimed three event championships and Uniontown High had one event league champion.

Senior Zach Louk owned three distance league championships and was part of another title for the Wildcats. Louk is the TRL champion in the 800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters.

He won the gold in the 800 meters in 2 minute, 10.42 seconds. Louk’s winning time in the 1600-meter race was 4:46.38. He took the gold in the 3200-meter race in 11:16.

Louk anchored the Wildcat 4×400-meter relay to a TRL title. Senior Zack English and juniors Lucas Hamlin and Carlos Gonzales combined with Louk to post a winning time of 3:48.8.

Chase Dudley capped his senior regular season with a TRL championship in the triple jump. Dudley won the event with a leap of 38 feet, 4 inches. Gonzales finished third at 36’4”.

Hamlin picked up the bronze medal in the 400-meter dash in 57.07 seconds. English was third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 47.6 seconds. 

Hamlin and Gonzales teamed up with sophomores Nick Trollope and Garrett Booth to claim third in the 4×100-meter relay race. Their time was 48.45 seconds.

Gonzales placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.5 seconds. The Wildcat 4×800-meter relay team of junior Marcus Miller and freshmen Payton Wilson, Trent Johnson and Wyatt Bolinger placed fourth in 10:08.

Jared Kale, a junior, was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 142’4 1/2”. Senior Kaleb Stroud was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 40’3”. English placed sixth in the long jump at 17’11 1/2”.

“The kids did a great job. We had several personal-bests which is just what we want this time of year,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVHS head track coach. “We are proud of our boys finishing second in the league.”

Pleasanton won the boys’ overall title with 133 points. Marmaton Valley scored 87 points for second. Crest was  sixth with 37 points and Uniontown placed eighth with 33 points.

Marmaton Valley’s girls scored 22 points for eighth place. Crest High’s Lady Lancers placed fourth with 56 points and Uniontown High’s girls were fifth with 32 points. Pleasanton won the girls’ championship with 155 points.

Marmaton Valley’s girls were led by sophomore Ashtynn Louk. Louk was second in the 3200-meter run in 13:49. She placed fourth in the 1600-meter run in 6:21 and fourth in the long jump with a distance of 13’6 3/4”.

Dawn Hobbs, a sophomore, was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:52.46. Freshman Tessa Olson placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:07.7.
