Crest High’s Kyle Hammond and Uniontown High’s Hope Jur-gensen and Brenton Esslinger were unanimous selections to the 2011-2012 Three Rivers League All-League basketball teams. All three received state postseason basketball honors also.
Crest High’s Jordan Morton, Shayla Stephens and Katrina Strickler and Uniontown High’s Hayden Rathbun also received state honors in their respective divisions.
The Topeka Capital-Journal and Wichita Eagle announced their Kansas All-Class state teams Sunday, just days after the All-TRL basketball team selections were released.
Hammond and Morton, both juniors, led Crest boys to a Kansas Class 1A, Division II Substate tournament championship and an appearance at the state tournament. The Lancers finished third in the TRL behind league champion Northeast and Uniontown.
Hammond received 2011-2012 Kansas Class 1A, second-team all-state honors by both newspapers. Morton earned Class 1A honorable mention from both papers.
Crest High’s Stephens and Strickler helped the Lady Lancers reach their first-ever state basketball tournament. The Lady Lancers finished just 2-7 in the TRL but went on a two-game winning streak to capture a 2012 Class 1A, Division II Substate championship.
Stephens and Strickler drew Class 1A honorable mentions from the Wichita Eagle.
Uniontown High’s boys and girls gave their fans a great ride in 2011-2012 as they both ended up 8-1 and second in the TRL. Esslinger, a junior, received 2011-2012 Kansas Class 2A honorable mention by the Capital-Journal and the Eagle.
Joining Esslinger on the TRL first-team was teammate Zach Travis, a senior. Receiving league honorable mentions were UHS seniors Robert Kuns and Seth Sympson.
Jurgenson, a senior, and Rathbun, a junior, earned 2012-2012 Kansas Class 2A honorable mentions from both newspapers. Rathbun was also named to the All-TRL first-team. Senior teammate Jacy Ermel also received honorable mention.
Receiving TRL honorable mentions by the girls’ coaches were Crest sophomores Erica Holman and Emily Frank and Marmaton Valley High’s junior Kailey Boyd and sophomore Kaitlin Ensminger.
Marmaton Valley High senior Zach Louk was named to the All-TRL first-team. Junior teammate Cole Becker earned honorable mention.
