Area players earn recognition

Humboldt High junior Trey Sommer, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns, along with making key plays as a receiver and on defense, was tapped as the Register's prep football player of the week.

Another exciting weekend of action around the Allen County area has concluded, leaving fans with one question: Who is the Player of the Week?  

Player of the Week 

Humboldt RB Trey Sommer 

Sommer was a great compliment to quarterback Gavin Page for Humboldt as they moved to 4-1 and 3-0 on the road so far this season. Sommer’s contributions didn’t end at running back, as Sommer made plays receiving and on defense to help the Cubs roll to another win. Sommer’s final line is a fun one to read. 

Final Line: 122 yds, 9.4 yards per carry, 2 TDs, 2 receptions, 52 yds, defensive interception vs West Franklin 

Quarterback of the Week

Humboldt QB Gavin Page 

Page was stellar Friday in Humboldt’s 50-7 triumph over West Franklin. With the win, the Cubs move to 4-1. Page put in work all over the field. At quarterback, Page threw for 166 yards, and gained 23.7 yards per completion, while rushing for 84 more, accounting for four total scores. 

Final Line: 7-14, 166 yds, 3 TDs, 84 yds rushing, rushing TD vs West Franklin 

Running Back of the Week 

Crest RB Holden Barker 

In a 50-14 loss to Waverly, Barker added to his mammoth rushing total on the season and now sits at 1,267 on the year to go with a staggering 21 touchdowns. Barker’s plethora of stops showcases his talents, despite the loss.

Final Line: 98 yds rushing, 2 TDs, 3.9 yards per carry, 6 tackles, 1 reception, 8 yds, 6 tackles vs Waverly

Wide Receiver of the Week 

Iola WR T.J. Taylor

Taylor was the favorite target of Iola quarterback Landon Weide in the Mustangs’ 34-7 win over Anderson County. Taylor put in an impressive performance on both sides of the ball, also contributing two tackles to go along with 37.2 yards per catch.

Final Line: 5 receptions, 186 yds, 2 TDs, 37.2 yards per catch, 2 tackles vs Anderson County..
