GREAT BEND — Sabrena McAnulty, Emily Baker and Margie Hartwig were in western Kansas Monday competing in the 2010 Kansas Class 3-2-1A State Girls’ Golf Tournament.
McAnulty of Uniontown High posted a score of 111 for the 18-hole event. It was a personal best for the Eagle junior.
“The weather turned out cold and windy Monday morning. We went out on Sunday and played a practice round so Sabrena could get familiar with the course,” said Jason Tourtillott, Uniontown golf coach.
“She improved her regional score by 21 strokes. She really worked hard the week between regional and state and it paid off.”
McAnulty tied for 23rd out of 91 golfers. She was two strokes out of the medals, which went to the top 20 finishers.
Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan High’s Maggie Sloan won the state championship with an 87. Only four golfers shot under 100 for the tournament on the Stoneridge Golf Club course.
Holcomb took the team championship with a 421. Caney Valley was second with a 445.
Yates Center’s Baker shot a 118, tying for 33rd and Hartwig carded a 137 to place 74th.
