The end of last week was chock-full of baseball and softball. Both Humboldt teams took second overall in their two tournaments while Yates Center baseball and softball swept Pleasanton, Marmaton Valley softball split at Chetopa and Crest baseball and softball got swept by Jayhawk-Linn. With May peeking around the corner and regionals ahead, here’s a quick recap of last week’s action.

Humboldt

The Cubs hosted their annual baseball and softball tournament on Thursday and despite their exemplary record heading into the games, both teams lost in the championship game.

Humboldt baseball (12-2) opened versus Central Heights and won 10-5.

Kaiden Barnett earned the win after allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with five walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out four.

Joe Murrow, Josh Hull and Dagen Goodner each had two hits and Gunner Elder had a triple.

The Cubs slipped up a game later when they faced Anderson County for the championship and lost 5-2.

Humboldt led 2-1 heading into the fifth before the Bulldogs scored three in the fifth to jump ahead.

Xavier Bauer earned the loss for the Cubs after allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks and a home run. He struck-out two.

It was much the same story for Humboldt softball (11-3).

They romped to a 13-3, five-inning win versus Central Heights.

Brooklyn Ellis allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Morgan Mauk and Laken Hunter each had three hits.

Humboldt then went on to lose the championship game to Anderson County 7-4.

Ellis allowed seven runs on 11 hits while Aricah McCall had the only mult-base hit in the game.

Humboldt will travel to Cherryvale on Tuesday.
