YATES CENTER — Some of the best athletes in the area weren’t about to let a little wind get in their way.

Track teams from Humboldt, Marmaton Valley and Southern Coffey County were among those competing Tuesday in the Yates Center Invitational.

Each school had standout performers in one venue or another.

For Marmaton Valley, the Granere siblings, Jaedon and Janae, proved tough. Jaedon Granere won the boys 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Janae was tops in the 200 as well as in the long jump and triple jump.

Humboldt’s Maddox Johnson was golden in both the shot put and javelin, while taking second in the discus. Cub teammate Mateo Miller topped all comers in the 300-meter hurdles and took third in the 110-meter hurdles. Humboldt also had the best 4×800-meter relay team.

Southern Coffey County’s Aiden Voorhees was a four-time winner, taking first in the 400 meters and sweeping the three jumping events, high, long and triple. Meanwhile, Ross Snovelle won the girls’ 100 meters. The Lady Titans also won the 4×100-meter relay.
