Area athletes medal at UHS meet

UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s boys and St. Paul High’s girls captured team championships at Monday’s 2012 Uniontown High Invitational track meet.

The Eagle boys piled up 120 points with St. Paul in second with 97 points and Jayhawk-Linn with 93 points. Marmaton Valley High Wildcat boys placed fourth with 59 points and Crest High’s Lancers were sixth with 28 points.

On the girls’ side, St. Paul rolled up 115 points for the title with Crest High’s Lady Lancers in second with 101 points. Uniontown finished third with 69 points. Marmaton Valley scored three points.

Uniontown’s boys went 1-2-3 in the 3200-meter run led by Montana Beerbower, in 12 minutes, 13 seconds. Jonathan Wheeler ran second in 12:31 and Dakota Henderson in 12:53. The Eagles also won the 4×800-meter relay race in 11:01.

Beerbower placed second in the 1600-meter run in 5:45 with Wheeler in fourth at 5:57 and Henderson running fifth in 6:04. The Eagles took the gold in the 4×400-meter relay race in 4:46.

Carter Wood claimed gold in the long jump with a leap of 17’81/2”. Teammate Cole Schafer was third at 17’7” followed by Marmaton Valley’s Zack English in fourth at 17’7” and Chase Dudley in fifth at 17’3”.

Marmaton Valley’s Dudley won the triple jump with a leap of 42’1/2”. Wood of Uniontown  placed second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5’10”.

Trenton Miller, Uniontown, was the silver medalist in the discus with a  throw of 135’7 1/2”. Marmaton Valley’s Trent Johnson placed fourth at 104’2” and Kaleb Stroud was sixth at 96’5”. Miller placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 38’8” and Stroud was fifth at 36’4 1/2”.

Crest High’s Jordan Morton won the javelin with a throw of 167’2”. Marmaton Valley’s Johnson placed fourth at 133’3” followed by teammate Jared Kale at 130’2” and Uniontown’s Zak Hueston in sixth at 109’9”.

English of Marmaton Valley won the 300-meter intermediate hurdle race in 50 seconds with Uniontown’s Skyler Riley in second at 51.03 and Crest’s Codi Vermillion in third at 51.91 seconds. Uniontown’s Wheeler was fourth at 58.09 and Marmaton Valley’s Coltan Alexander was fifth in 1:20.

Vermillion, Crest, claimed gold in the 110-meter high hurdles in 20.13 and Uniontown’s Riley was second at 20.2. Marmaton Valley earned gold in the 4×100-meter relay when the foursome of Lucas Hamlin, Jared Kale, Dudley and English had a winning time of 51.84 and Uniontown placed second in 51.9.

In the boys’ 100-meter dash, Uniontown’s Schafer was fourth in 12.38 seconds and Vermillion of Crest of fifth in 12.66. Crest’s Morton took the bronze medal in the 200-meter dash in 25.32 seconds and Uniontown’s Schafer was sixth in 26.43.

Marmaton Valley’s Hamlin placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.2 followed by teammate Wyatt Bolinger in 1:05. Bolinger collected the silver medal in the 800-meter run in 2:36.9 and Alex Bradbury of Uniontown was fourth in 2:40.4.

Marmaton Valley’s field event relay team of Nathan Fry, Johnson Alexander  and Bolinger won its race in 58.59 seconds.

Crest High’s girls won six events. Three by Kurston Gilliland in the throwing events. Gilliland won the shot put with a toss of 35’91/2” and took the gold in the discus at 100’7”. She won the javelin with a distance of 106’6”.
