Area athletes medal at Crest Invitational

Zach Louk was a triple threat for Marmaton Valley High’s boys Thursday at the 2012 Crest High Invitational track meet.

Louk won all three distance races and led the Wildcat boys to a fourth-place finish in the  nine-team meet held at Iola’s Riverside Park. The Wildcats had 72 points while Waverly won the team title with 141 points.

Crest High’s Lancers finished sixth with 37 points followed by the Iola High junior varsity with 33 points. Uniontown High’s Eagles scored 24 points for eighth and Southern Coffey County High’s Titans had 13.5 points.

Crest’s Lady Lancers  had a 1-2-3 finish in the javelin led by Kurston Gilliland followed by Shayla Stephens and Katrina Strickler. Gilliland won the shot put and was second in the discus to help the Lady Lancers take fourth place at their own track meet.

The Lady Lancers scored 75 points. Hartford ran away with 144.5 points in snaring the team title. Uniontown High’s Eagle girls were fifth with 52 points followed by Southern Coffey County with 27, the Iola High Fillies’ junior varsity with 25 points and Marmaton Valley in eighth with 24 points.

Iola’s Breanna Stout claimed the gold medal in the girls’ pole vault with a vault of 8 feet, 6 inches. Stout was second in the high jump at 4’10”. Darci Collins earned the bronze medal for third in the shot put with a throw of 32’2 1/2”. Collins was sixth in the discus with a toss of 78’1”.

Iola High’s Mustangs captured the silver medal in the 4×800-meter relay race. The foursome of Jacob Cooper, Jason Tidd, Blaine Klubek and Jonathan Tidd a time of 10 minutes, 45.30 seconds. Michael Wilson took the silver in the pole vault, clearing 11’6”.

Eli Grover had a personal-best throw of 40’5” for a bronze medal and points for the Mustangs in the shot put. He was fifth in the discus with a throw of 112’ 5 3/4”. 

Iola’s Devan Burton finished third in the 100-meter dash in 11.820 seconds in a race in which less than a second separated the first five runners. Terrill Smith was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 25.630 seconds. The Mustangs’ 4×400-meter relay team of Cooper, Smith, Bryan Miller and Levi Baker was fifth at 4:04.

ZACH HOUK won the 1600-meter race in 4:56.6 then the 800-meter run in 2:12.4. He came back late in the meet to take the gold medal in the 3200-meter race in 11:12.8

Uniontown’s Montana Beerbower ran second in the 3200 in 12:02.3. Eagle teammate Dakota Henderson was fourth in 12:21. In the 800-meter run, Southern Coffey County’s Angus Nelson was sixth in 2:28.

Marmaton Valley’s Nick Trollope posted a winning time of 59 seconds in the 400-meter dash with teammate Wyatt Bolinger in fifth at 1:01.58. Southern Coffey County’s Brier Johnson ran third in 1:01.4.5.

Chase Dudley of Marmaton Valley finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18’3”. Dudley was third in the triple jump at 39’1 3/4” and Carlos Gonzales was fifth in 37’3 1/2”.

Dudley and Gonzales teamed up with Lucas Hamlin and Garrett Booth to take the bronze medal in the 4×100-meter relay race in 48.76 seconds. Gonzales was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.3 seconds.
