Area athletes garner TRL honors

Three Rivers League Eight-Man champion Marmaton Valley High landed four players in six first-team spots on the All-TRL football team.
The TRL coaches announced the 2011 all-league teams for eight-man and 11-man football and volleyball. The teams were selected by coaches recently and released following the last postseason competition by a league team.
There were 33 area athletes earning league honors from coaches for this fall’s competition.
Eight-Man Football
Marmaton Valley’s Cole Becker was unanimously chosen as running back and linebacker. Crest High’s Jayden Bowen was a unanimous selection at both center and defensive linebacker.
Nathan Smart of Marmaton Valley was named to the first team offensive and defensive units as a lineman. Marmaton Valley’s Austin Harrison was a first-team defensive back and Kaleb Stroud was named the eight-man first-team kicker.
Crest’s Kyle Hammond was the other unanimous selection at running back. Hammond was a first-team defensive lineman and honorable mention as a special teams player.
Also earning honorable mention were: Marmaton Valley’s Jared Kale as defensive lineman, Jimmy Frye as linebacker and Levi Ramsey as special teams player; Crest’s Cole Bowen as a receiver and defensive back, Jesse Boone as defensive lineman and Jordan Morton as defensive back.
Volleyball
Uniontown High’s Tayler Shook, Marmaton Valley High’s Molly McEwan and Crest High’s Tessa Louk were named to the 2011 All-TRL first-team volleyball team.
Uniontown’s Ashley Nietfeld and Hayden Rathbun earned second-team honors.
Marmaton Valley’s Kailey Boyd, Crest’s Shayla Stephens and Uniontown’s Hope Jurgensen, Lauren Rockhold and Jessica Murrow, all earned honorable mention.
11-Man Football
Uniontown High’s Eagles landed nine players on the first-team offensive and defensive units in 11-man league football.
Zak Hueston at center, Brenton Esslinger as guard and Max Labbe as tackle were named to on the offensive line first-team. Seth Sympson was named first-team tight end and kicker. Jordan Woods is first-team running back and Zach Travis is all-league quarterback.
Guard Josh Beerbower and receiver Robert Kuns earned offensive honorable mention.
Defensively, Beerbower at tackle, Esslinger at end, Labbe at linebacker, Travis and Kuns as defensive backs, Jay Hierholzer as linebacker and Trenton Miller as special teams player received first-team honors.
Wood as linebacker and punter received defensive honorable mention.
