Area athletes compete in regional tournament

Special Olympics: Basketball and Cheerleading

The ANW Co-op and Allen County Special Olympics basketball teams competed in the Southeast Kansas Regional Special Olympics basketball tournament at the Weede Center in Pittsburg Thursday.

For ANW, Ethan Barlow finished second in both the skills and speed dribble, Manuel Doolittle finished fourth in skills and second in speed dribble, Aiden Fraker finished first in skills and third in speed, Keegan Hedman finished third in skills and second in speed, Ty Johnson finished first in skills and second in speed, Dakota Knowles finished third in skills and first in speed, Mark McCullough Jr. finished third in skills and fourth in speed, Conner Merando finished second in skills, Page Riley finished first in skills and fourth in speed, Court-land Sager fished first in both events, Fayth Simpson finished fourth in skills and second in speed, Laura Simpson finished first in skills and third in speed, Jacob Stokes finished second in skills and first in speed, Wolfgang Webber finished second in both events and Christopher White finished third in skills and second in speed.

For the Allen County team, Judy Brandstetter finished second in skills and first in the speed drill, Brandon Griggs finished third in skills and second in speed and Tom Weide finished third in both events.

Thursday also marked the first time that ANW Co-op competed in cheerleading. Webber, White and Mary Sunshine Crites finished third.
